It happened right before every last human was killed in the explosion. The Colors of the universe, being as colors are, cannot continue to be colors on their own. They need to be attached to something or they will not exist. Just as the colors were stripped away they immediately took a new host, and because everything in the universe was being destroyed, if the colors tried to go right back into where they were they would just be torn away again. So the colors each chose something small and smart to push all it's great power into. And that happened to be humans. Because there are only 11 colors, 11 people out of billions were chosen to hold the awesome powers the colors possessed.
