////////"Wrenclaw!" The small, brown and white molly jolted awake with a start at the urgent wail of her name, her icy eyes wide in shock. Instinctively, her claws gripped at the smooth bark of the branch she laid upon as a heavy weight sent it quivering.
////////"For Starclan's sake, Egretstar," Wrenclaw hissed, aggressively licking at the bristled fur of her chest. Egretstar, hardly acknowledging the twenty-foot drop below, bounded across the length of the branch towards the warrior, an excited energy bursting around him. It was clear he had been awake since sunrise - again. In the moon since Starclan had directed Wrenclaw to Egretstar's (supposedly capable) paws, there had yet to be a day where she had risen before him. Apparently there was just too much to be done for the white tom to waste the daylight hours.
////////"There's something I need to show you," Egretstar grinned, ignoring the molly's irritation.

////////Wrenclaw padded alongside Egretstar in content silence, her curious blue gaze darting about the forest in wonder. With the sun having emerged for Newleaf, the trees and undergrowth had come alive with new scents and movement. The warrior's previous home had been short grass and rolling fields, nothing quite like the excitement of the forest. Wrenclaw's ears pricked at a rustle through the forest debris, and her stomach groaned expectantly. Licking her muzzle, the molly's mind drifted to the thought of gripping a tasty, juicy squirrel between her claws...
////////"We're here," Egretstar announced unexpectedly, jolting Wrenclaw from her thoughts. The warrior grumbled, her tail flicking in agitation. Egretstar did everything with such a sudden burst of energy.
////////Wrenclaw blinked, glancing around the clearing with a scowl. "I've seen the Moonstone, Egretstar," she commented impatiently. "This is where I found you, remember?" The molly was beginning to question whether Starclan had chosen a mentally inept leader for their lost clan.
////////"Where I found you," Egretstar corrected, quickly, under his breath. "But that's not the point. Come." Loping forward, Egretstar beckoned Wrenclaw to follow with a flick of his white tail - which she did, reluctantly. "Look, it's the entire history of Featherclan," the tom breathed in awe.
////////Wrenclaw settled to sit beside her leader, her dark fur mingling with his pale pelt. The two cats of Featherclan fell into a respectful silence as they gazed up at the rearing flat face of one of the Moonstone boulders; it was the only one that had not fallen victim to a blanket of moss. Its slate surface was etched with innumerable patterns of carvings, scratched into the cold stone by strong claws. "From the first Featherclan, to the last," Egretstar murmured, for once docile. Wrenclaw followed his outstretched paw as he indicated each clan's own story, a permanent imprint on the Moonstone. "Each one before us ended in death, and sorrow," he whispered, yellow eyes glassy as he stared at the fading paw prints of blood that marked the end of every tale.
////////Wrenclaw tilted her head towards her leader, watching him watch the stone. With what she hoped was a comforting smile on her white-splashed muzzle, the brave warrior curled her tail around Egretstar's and brushed her muzzle against his shoulder. "Your Featherclan won't, I promise," she purred quietly.

"Reach higher!" Cloudpaw slouched back on his haunches, looking crestfallen. Daisyflight sighed, padded over to him.
"You have to try harder, you can't let your grief hold you back." He shook his head, a determined look appearing on his face.
"Let me try again, I'll get it this time!" He reached up, tottering on his hind legs.

"So, I can't kill a cat for trespassing?" Roestar frowned. He hated the fact that, despite obviously understanding what Roestar was saying, he had to question it anyway. 'So I can't leave a kit in trouble?' 'So I can't take Daisyflight's place without teaching a little brat our ways?' He had no clue how Daisyflight put up with him, or what she saw in him. The two had been hanging out ever since Rowanstep had arrived, and even though it would help the clan, he couldn't imagine this tom fathering kits.
"No, you can't kill a cat for trespassing." It was going to be a long day.

The world before him was a dazzling show of shifting lights and fogged up shapes. It was like the stars had come down from the night sky to meet him, even if the warmth on his pelt told the little tom that it was still day. Though many times he had tried to explain the way he saw the world, to his parents, his siblings, even to himself, there was no perfect word for it. Instead of crisp outlines he saw the feelings of things, broad interpretations, poetry, or that was how he called it. Really, the inexplicable mist that had always covered his sight was the source of most of the kitten's problems, of his bumps and scrapes and loneliness. And it was the reason he had to abandon caution for instinct and track the soft voice of a cat he could not see as it coaxed him over brambles and roots through a forest that was little more than a blur of grey.

The Clayclan camp, Resinstar's words not his, was hard for the newly dubbed Fogpaw to navigate even with his "ghost", again the way Resinstar put it- somehow explanations always served to make a concept more confusing rather than clearer, Webwing's aid. The ground consisted almost entirely of roots that twisted in ways that made it impossible to tell if what he saw before him was due to double vision or there really were two obstacles. He could hear the low, lilting rumble of an older tom and the quick, teasing retort of a younger shecat in the background but to his surprise, Resinstar didn't introduce him to them. Instead the Clayclan leader led him by tail-tip to a root den that he identified as the medicine cat den in his light, sunny tone. Within there were five- no, only three, cat-like blobs crouched inside. He could imagine their expressions easily. A taut frown on the smallest cat, whose voice was brisk and strained as they were pried from a whimpering patient to examine him. A look of disgust on the largest and deepest-toned cat who couldn't stop muttering about organization. A dizzy grin on the patient who insisted that they were fine but kept stumbling over the words. It was overly loud and crowded in there and Fogpaw felt his muscles tensing up as he attempted to stay still until the smallest occupant chased out Resinstar and the advocate for organization and they both could breathe again.

The river, if it could be called that, smelled of decay and muck as Fogpaw was led there by Resinstar and Webwing, and yet the dazzling gleam reflected off what little water was left entranced the apprentice. He could get used to this, he thought. Get used to Clayclan and its loud inhabitants and grey-pole forests which Resinstar had sworn to teach him every corner of even if Fogpaw did have what Driftstep had declared fog-eye. He had a family now, in a way. Maybe it was a bit scattered and a bit spooky, and maybe he didn't know everyone's names yet, but it was still a better one than he had had before. So Fogpaw would take it.
