A B O U T Directly from the wiki page:
Land of the Lustrous (Japanese: 宝石の国 Hepburn: Hōseki no Kuni, "Country of Jewels") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Haruko Ichikawa and published from 2012 onwards. It is published by Kodansha in Monthly Afternoon magazine and eight volumes compiling the chapters have been released so far. Set in a world inhabited by "jewel people," it chronicles their efforts to find the place where they belong and defend their way of life. An anime promotional video was released in July 2013, and an anime television series adaptation by Orange aired between October and December 2017.
In a place inhabited by jewels that take the form of people, Phosphophyllite (Phos) is weak (with one of the lowest hardnesses) and considered useless by their peers. Phos asks their aloof but wise colleague Cinnabar for help after they receive an assignment to create a natural history encyclopedia, thus beginning their friendship and personal growth. Meanwhile, the "jewel people" are at war with the Lunarians who want to take advantage of their luxury value.

Also I'm going to stop that pronoun/gender debate right here and right now. See below:
My friend is an undergrad at Harvard (if you don't believe me I can and will ask him for proof) who has taken several years of Japanese and teaches a summer class on gender and sexuality in Japan. Because there is a lot of confusion in the western fandom as to what pronouns are "correct" for the gems, I asked him for his expertise after we both binge watched the anime.
I've screencapped snippets of that conversation here and here.
So to put my Hot Take (tm) as concisely as possible:
Canonically, most gems use "boku" or "ore" in the original japanese which are male pronouns. A few exceptions exist, namely Rutile, who uses gender-neutral language befitting that of their job as a doctor, and Dia, who uses "watashi" which is the default pronoun women use but is not necessarily feminine. Also Dia is still referred to as "onii-chan" / "nii-chan" (big brother) by Bortz so even then Dia's pronouns aren't really all that feminine either. Alexandrite prefers being referred to as "Alex-chan" (more feminine) rather than "Alex-san" (more neutral) which in the sub was translated as "Lexi" vs. "Alex" respectively, but -chan is not exclusively reserved for girls either. Seeing as it's pretty much canon that they're genderless rocks, the only reason why someone would use "she/her" as pronouns is because they see the gems as feminine because of their appearances. Which is, literally, canonically incorrect on two levels because A) they're genderless and B) they do not use feminine pronouns, but masculine.
As a femme but masc-identifying nonbinary person myself, this is pretty important to me.
A case can be made, as my friend noted, for the use of they/them because in Japanese there is no true gender neutral pronoun in the language and thus the series had to make due with said constraints. I personally will accept either he/him or they/them, but to prevent unnecessary debates in the thread, I would highly suggest you stick to they/them. While my friend is knowledgeable, as he said, the intricacies of socio-linguistics in Japanese are far too complex to discuss over CS, so I think the safest bet is to just stick with they/them and call it a day.
If you'd like to discuss this with me privately, please PM me.
